I think most writers begin writing as children. But not me: I loved to run, look at bugs, roll down hills, play outside... I did love other things too--stories, children’s books, art and all of the arts, but I never thought about what I was going to be when I grew up or of becoming a writer. It wasn’t until 15 years after I was completely paralyzed that the trauma of that experience motivated me to write…and write…and write. I published in women’s magazines, literary journals, collections about rescued animals, children’s magazines and websites. I joined writers groups and went to conferences on children’s writing. But it was when my husband and I adopted a newborn that my thoughts turned to everything children! Can you imagine? I hope you’ll smile, laugh and giggle at seeing some of the life experiences and ideas that inspire me, my children’s writing and illustration.
